The Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Service
This unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary behavioral health team with special gerontological expertise. Patients include elders with late-life depression, psychotic disorders, Alzheimer's disease or a related dementing condition with concomitant serious behavioral disturbances such as agitation, aggression, paranoia, and mood abnormalities, and medical/neurological illnesses with psychiatric symptom expression. The units have been developed with unique geriatric-related accoutrements that facilitate optimal care, including selected private rooms.
Early Episode/Young Adult Unit
This unit provides an environment for the care of patients with first and early episode major psychiatric illnesses (psychotic and affective disorders), as well as patients with complex diagnostic and/or treatment issues early in the course of the illness. By incorporating the expertise and resources of the Division of Research at Zucker Hillside Hospital, we provide comprehensive, evidence-based systematic and innovative assessment and treatment of our patients.
This until also serves patients for the Behavioral Health College Partnership, an innovative program that provides a collaborative approach for treatment to regional college students.
The Adult Affective Disorders Unit
This unit provides an environment for the care of patients with serious affective disorders, including major depression, psychotic depression, and bipolar disorder. This program serves adult patients with onset off illness occurring in midlife, as well as those with recurrent and treatment refractory conditions. This inpatient service provides short-term acute care, psychopharmacology, multidisciplinary care approach, individual treatment planning, psychoeducation, family collaboration, vocational services and planning.
The Women’s Unit
This short-term acute care 19-bed unit is dedicated to the treatment of women 18 and older with psychiatric disorders of sufficient severity to warrant hospitalization. This single gender unit has specialized tracks, including a program for perinatal disorders (postpartum depression) and a program based on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for women with borderline personality disorder.
The Adolescent Inpatient Unit
On this 21-bed unit, patients 13-17 years of age whose problems require more intensive treatment that can be provided on an outpatient basis are treated. Services include comprehensive assessment and brief treatment of a variety of psychiatric disorders including: anxiety disorders, ADHD and other disruptive behavior disorders, major depression, bipolar and psychotic disorders. Support and psychoeducation is provided to families and others involved in the child’s care.
